about a month ago i sold my TFA prowl figure. today i just got the new "Classics" universe Prowl.
the pricky logical police car one... yes, the not-so-fun to be around Prowl.
i assume most of you already know who this guy is, growing up with Generation 1 and what not. so i do not have to explain how very... stiff this guy is.
for those who don't... you missed out on Saturday morning childhood.
this Prowl is a fairly modern representation of the G1 character, transforming into a Nissan 350Z that barely escaped paying copyright fees. his design and paint scheme is a nod to his predecessor in which he is a Japanese police vehicle.
in robot mode he exceptionally resembles his cartoon look and also borrowing elements from the contemporary IDW prowl. what i like about this guy is how every aspect of him becomes embedded to his altmode, especially his weaponry which in the first prowl does not store them so seamlessly inside himself when disguised case in point his blaster which folds up on itself and stores under prowl's hood.. but as with the tradition of American Classics toys a fair amount of real-world consideration has been given in not chromifying some parts of the toy. this in theory is meant to ground the toy as a "robot in disguise" (HOW ONE CAN DRIVE WELL WITHOUT SIDE MIRRORS THOUGH IS ANYONE'S GUESS). expect the henkei version to have chromed shoulder weaponry.
another note is the spoiler on the rear, possibly this is to emphasize his soon to be-retool counterpart Bluestreak/Silverstreak as something of a racer than a law enforcer. odds are he'll be more fun to be around than this guy.
paint apps could've gone better but again, this is Hasbro we're talking about. some sacrifices must be made. i love his light-piping on the back of the head, seeing as his eyes are molded to emphasize his face as having that cool, contemplative--Grimlock is gonna shove me to the ground aaany minute now--logical look on his mug.
the amount of posability on this thing is amazing. it seems recent prowls in various continuities can really bust a move. his complicated Binaltech-esque transformation scheme has done it's part in improving this goal.
overall:
Classics Prowl is great for G1 fans and fans of the new Classics line of toys, he has that Prowl look and feel we all familiarize with when we were young and he executes the aspects of the original almost perfectly.
if only he was shorter than Grimlock though...
