Ok! I started to write a little something about my new Battle damaged IM and I ended up with a review.
Hope you guys pick a little something from this. Here goes...
First, I have to say this is a MOST AWESOME figure.
Let's start with the HEAD...
Two heads come with this figure. 1st one has a magnetized undamaged facemask that reveals the tony stark headsculpt when removed or posed with the mask lifted up. It also has a moveable jaw part of the armor which is a cool movie accurate detail.
2nd head allows the LED from the neck post shine through the eyes. This head has scratches but note that scratched are painted and what a good job they did on the painting.
The head alone gives you several options on how to pose your IM.
Now, on to the TORSO.
3 oprtions on this part. 1st is the bare chest of the armor (the base of the chest) allowing you to appreciate and drool over the detail. Embedded in the chest is the lighted arc reactor with the switch situated under the air flap on the shoulder blades.
2nd is the battle damaged chest armor which attaches to the chest frame via 2 pegs. Slide it in, and out... no worries here. The paint apps and dents depicting the worn out armor are astounding. Of course, this has a small hole in the middle to allow the LED light shine through.
3rd is the non- deformed chest piece. Beautifully painted and again, the arc reactor hole.
SHOULDERS
Sports a retractable piece of armor where the mini- missiles come out. Slide the armor down, press the missile pod and its out! This is easier done with the provided mini stick to eject/ push in the mini- missile rack. Only concern here is that the missile rack is (supposed?) to lock in place when you push it down. Mine does not all the time. What I do is push it in and block it by closing the slide down armor. Works like a charm.
The figure comes with 2 loose air flaps that you are suppose to slide in on the slots found near the shoulders. In my figure's case, it does not slide in easily. This is really tricky and I was not able to install it properly for fear that I may not be able to remove it. Nevertheless, this piece is amazing. For the outer part same plastic material is used but when you deploy the flaps, it reveals a perforated metal sheet (like photo- etched metal used in model kits). Nice detail there.
The shoulder armors comes not with 1, but 2 separate pieces which allows more mobility for the arms of our hero. Good going there!
Let's move on to thhe WAIST.
The waist part of the armor is made of rubber (??) painted with the same color as the rest of the fig. I believe this was done so as not to restrict the waist/abs movement. I hope it doesn't change color or fade in time. Nothing more to see here... move along people.
ARMS
Typical left arm?? guess again. with a few rotation here and a few pulls there you'll be greeted by the shield IM used to deflect the bullets fired at him in IM movie 1. Look closely and again you would see how hard working the boys at HT are. Photetched (??) parts and all.
The right arm wasn't neglected with HT TLC as well. Slide apart a couple of armor pieces in the forearm and you have your mini- missiles again.
Of course that brings us to the HANDS.
Lots of hands here. You have clenched pair, a semi- open (SO) hand and the fully open (FO) hand. All these are covered with armor and painted well.. goes without saying. If I'm not mistaken, the SO and FO hand both has clear plastics in the palm to allow LED light from the arm to shine through mimicing IM's blasters. The switch for these babies are situated in the inner biceps of the figure. That way, it's less conspicuous and does not interfere in a major way with the design.
Perhaps you are wondering "there's a scene in IM movie 1 where stark removed his hand armor after Iron monger fell. What happened to that?" Well, HT good as they are never forgot that detail. Provided as well is a naked/ unarmored hand. Happy?
Nowhere to go but down. LEGS! (I feel like I'm assembling Voltron here )
Here, you will find an unassuming thigh.. or waist is it? But then again, twist the round thingies in both sides reveals the flares ejectors. Now you have something to confuse those darn missiles. Turning these thing in the other direction and a slight push and its back in place. Genius!
For the legs, you would think HT is tired right now with all those details (like I am tired typing) Guess again because in both calfs, your figure is installed with air flaps. These comes 2 a pice which you could deploy in different angles adding realism to your fig. It doesn't stop theere. Look inside the calf and you would see details that would make you cry. Hydraulics and all... My goodness!
You still up for this?
ARTICULATION
HT boast of 36 (if I'm not mistaken) articulation for this. You want to confirm that? You count. All I could say it more than enough to make your IM look cool (or dumb, if you prefer to go the other way).
AND THEN SOME
IM comes with a specialized stand. Not the standard from HT but a reproduction of a deck of painted and clear plastic. The stand isn't even simple. Its big. Its heavy. And its awesome!
So, with all these do you think this figure is worth your buck? For me, It's worth every penny. Heck, even my wife likes it. I displayed it for a day and she missed it when I returned it inside the box the following day.
