I am Soundwave. I am Decepticon. The revolution begins now.
Soundwave is the token proletariat hero-villain in Animated, hero in a sense he seeks the end of machine opression, villain in a sense that he'd kill all the flesh creatures mercilessly to do it. and he's a DECEPTICON.
Soundwave has his origins as an experiment by Megatron who wanted to create a new body for himself. a body that could adapt to anything. and he achieved just that. unfortunately, he didn't count on Sari's key to grant the body sentience (and a rather cold one at that) but Megatron managed to sway Soundwave to the decepticon cause with promises of Machine rule over earth. too bad he got smashed to bits by Bulkhead. last we saw of the guy on the show, he -seemingly-reverted his conscience into the most functional and smallest component of technology found on him before he got fragged. surprise surprise, it was a micro-cassette player.
Soundwave transforms into a stylized and modified Scion-xB, that looks like it's owned by a club DJ. communications officer indeed.
Soundwave wears that fresh Animated look on him well, turning into a squat, but buff bot with built-in sound systems and pimped up speakers. nods to the G1 namesake are very visible on him, from the blue he wears, and the optics he has to the chest display he has on him that resembles the front of a cassette player. it even has a small space in it that also has a transparent plastic cover, so the cassetticons or something like them are probably not far behind. what he has for the meantime is very amusing in itself...
initiate operation: Garage Band
meet Laserbeak. he transforms into a HUGE guitar, and he's trippy.
i have no background on laserbeak whatsoever. seeing as he never appeared on the first 2 seasons that's understandable. but if he's anything like the original, he may as well be the MOST COMPETENT warrior Megatron ever had.
over-all:
Soundwave is a nice toy, but not all that... great.
his toy as with all animated ones is very well executed and well articulated,
i have yet to find any paint faults on him. my only complaint is how he can't solidly hold Laserbeak in guitar mode, and bust some mad rockstar poses. he also has no weapons on him, but on the show, all he needed was his built in Sonic Blast system so that's okay.
8 out of 10.
